For this project I created an alternate cover for Jeff Parker's experimental jazz album The Relatives. I was inspired by the restraint of the original cover, which shows only the title and the artist's name on a piece of folded white paper. The composition is surprisingly emotive.
I decided to stay true to that original intention, so I designed the album cover to be a meditation on a single texture. I photographed the bark of a neighborhood tree so that it felt like a bird's eye view of strangely familiar terrain. I designed the surrounding border and text to bring it a feeling of warmth and flow.
